Preparation method of catalysts for biodiesel production.
This invention aims at the procedure to obtain heterogeneous catalysts shaped in cylinder and three-dimensional forms (monoliths) by using compression moulding and 3D printing techniques (additive manufacturing) respectively and their use to produce biodiesel through transesterification processes from fatty acid-based wastes. Catalysts obtained through the procedure described in this invention are characterized by their excellent mechanical properties, high catalyst activity and ciclability over cycles thus are suitable to be reused. Use of these materials as catalysts in biodiesel production processes has many advantages versus classical homogeneous catalysts based on alkaline solutions and powdery heterogeneous ones. Some of these advantages are as follows; a) prevention of soap formation in case of use of raw oil wastes that may contain free fatty acids, b) there is no need of separation and purification processes on the obtained biodiesel, c) catalysts can be separated out from the reaction media and products so that they can be reused in an easy way with no need of filtration processes.
