A research group at the University of Alicante has developed a technology for the use of ultraviolet (UV) germicidal radiation in the disinfection of foods, mainly liquid foods. This technology does not produce residues and preserves the original organoleptic properties of foods. It can substitute thermal or chemical disinfection treatments.
This technology is protected by Spanish patent (P201400150). Technology licensed to a company for a specific application (horchata processing) and available for other applications.
