The invention relates to a sensor and a process to preventively and automatically detect the degradation of wood and wood-based materials in structures and works of art.

Until now, there was no sensor that could early detect degradation in wooden structures and works of art. Due to the fast and easy detection of the biodegradation risk, the sensor prevent future costs of repairing or replacing wooden elements, as well as the application of cost-intensive remedial chemical treatments with negative environmentally and health impacts.
