Compounds with antimicrobial activity resistant strains of Streptococcus Pneumoniae and other Gram-Positive bacteria
A new family of antimicrobials compounds, with a completely novel structure, has been developed. They show antibacterial activity against multidrug resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) and act as inhibitors of unusual therapeutic targets in treatments against this pathogen. Moreover, they also display an antimicrobial effect over other gram-positive pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus or Haemophilus infuenzae.
Protected by a patent in Spain. Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche (70%) and Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) (30%) are co-owners of the patent rights.
